Board Of Education Caps 19 Schools For 2018-19

The Johnston County Board of Education has approved a list of 19 schools that will be capped for the 2018-19 school term.  Due to limited space, the schools were identified as being over capacity.

The 19 schools were recommended as Capped Schools in 2018-19 by the Johnston County Schools department of Growth and Planning. Because of high enrollment all 19 will be capped for reassignment during the next school term.  The schools include:

Elementary (K-5)
Benson Elementary
Cleveland Elementary
Cooper Elementary
Corinth Holders Elementary
Dixon Road Elementary
Four Oaks Elementary
McGee’s Crossroads Elementary
Polenta Elementary
River Dell Elementary
Riverwood Elementary
West Clayton Elementary
West View Elementary

Middle (6-8)

Archer Lodge Middle
Cleveland Middle
Four Oaks Middle
Riverwood Middle

High Schools
Cleveland High
Corinth Holders High
South Johnston High

Several schools will be removed from the list of capped schools in 2018-19. They include North Johnston High, Clayton Middle, McGee’s Crossroads Middle and Smithfield Middle.

North Johnston High did not meet the threshold for capped status this year.

Clayton Middle, McGee’s Crossroads Middle and Smithfield Middle were removed due to the significant reduction in student enrollment with the opening of Swift Creek Middle in August 2017.

The school board voted unanimously to approve the capped school list.
