Boat Fire Damages Home

A boat that caught fire in the driveway of a South Smithfield home Monday afternoon also damaged the adjacent home.

Around 2:30pm, Smithfield Fire Chief John Blanton said an individual was working on a boat at 207 W. Langdon Avenue when it caught fire.  The fire melted the power line away from the house and also burned the exterior.

Smithfield fire crews arrived on the scene and quickly contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading inside.

Crews used ventilation fans to remove the smoke from the house.

The fire was ruled accidental. The boat valued at $8,000 was a total loss. The house sustained $5,000 in damage.  No injuries were reported. Photos by JoCoFire.com
