Body Found In Area Flooded By Hurricane Florence

When floodwaters from Hurricane Florence receded in an area along Highway 117 South of Goldsboro Monday, a body was found in a large ditch.

The area had been flooded for more than a week. A landscaper cleaning up the area discovered the body and notified the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was identified as 32 year-old Marcus Jalam Wiley of Buttercup Lane, Goldsboro.  The cause of death has not been determined and it remains unclear if the death was storm related.

An autopsy will be performed to determine how Wiley died.  Detectives are also reviewing video surveillance footage from some nearby businesses to see if they will provide any clues.
