The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman who may have been dead for several months.
Last Thursday, deputies were asked to check on the welfare of the woman at a home on McArthur Pond Road outside of Mount Olive in rural Wayne County. A detective stopped at the home and made contact with an individual who confirmed there was a deceased person inside the home.
The woman’s body was located in the home and from all indications had been there for an extended period of time. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy and positive identification.
In a press release today (Tuesday), the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the body had still not been positively identified. The cause of death has not been released.
The occupant of the home being questioned about the death by law enforcement suffered a medical emergency. There is no word on that person’s condition.
