Body Identified As Missing Man

Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats has confirmed a body found Wednesday afternoon is that of a 30- year-old man reported missing by his family nearly two months ago.

“It is with great sadness that we inform all of you that the body of Jamelle C. Brown, missing since November 25, 2018, was discovered on the afternoon of January 16, 2019,” Sheriff Coats said in a news release Friday afternoon.

Brown was last seen around 10:00pm Saturday, Nov. 24th in his room on Sawyer Road near Cameron.  A few hours earlier he had returned from a jobsite not far from his home, showered and went to bed.  He was scheduled to go to work the next day at 7:30am but never arrived.

A family member reported hearing the front door to their home open and closed at 11:16pm that night but didn’t see who it was. Friends and family said Brown had never gone missing before and had never missed work.   A Silver Alert was issued after he was reported missing.

Brown’s body was discovered Wednesday about a half mile from his residence. The remains were identified using dental records

“There is no evidence of foul play nor is foul play suspected,” Sheriff Coats said in the release. “Mr. Brown’s body was found by a landscaping crew working in the area.”
