SELMA – The Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash on Interstate 95 at the 98 mile marker near Selma. Around 10:40 pm Tuesday, a northbound silver passenger car veered off of the interstate, drove through a fence and into a large pond next to Campground Road. When authorities arrived, the car was completely submerged.
Rescuers moved the Selma Fire Department ladder truck into position over the vehicle and confirmed there was one victim inside. The car was pulled out of the pond about 1:00 am this morning (Wednesday).
Troopers confirmed that a young male victim was the only occupant. The victim was a local resident. His name was not immediately released.
Selma, Pine Level, Smithfield and Princeton Fire units responded. The Princeton Dive Team entered the water to recover the vehicle.
