Break-In Reported After Weather Forces Family To Motel

A Four Oaks family said someone broke into their home Monday night while they were staying in a motel.

The break-in occurred at an address on Peach Orchard Road off US 701 South.

The heating system in the house broke down and because of the cold overnight temperatures the victim said they decided to stay in a local motel to keep warm.  When they returned to their home the next morning they discovered $4,450 in property missing including three TV’s, a Playstation 4, Xbox, iPad, and gold necklace.  The victim said they had just purchased many of the items from their tax refund check.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said there was no signs of a forced entry into the home and believe a door was left unlocked when the family left.

The break-in has been assigned to a detective.
