Friday afternoon, the Johnston County School Board named Brian Vetrano as the new interim superintendent of Johnston County Public Schools.
Vetrano, the Chief of Human Capital for Johnston County Schools, had previously served as interim superintendent for several days following the August 2019 retirement of Superintendent Dr. Ross Renfrow until former interim superintendent Dr. Jim Causby could fill the position. Dr. Causby resigned suddenly earlier today.
School Board Chairman Todd Sutton released the following statement:
It is with deep sadness that I accept the resignation of Dr. Jim Causby, Interim Superintendent. While this is a difficult time for Johnston County Public Schools, we ask for your support of the school system and our Board of Education as we take the necessary steps to move the school system forward. At the present time, I have called upon Mr. Brian Vetrano to serve the district as the acting Superintendent of Johnston County Public Schools effective today, January 10, 2020. I remain positive and hopeful for the future of Johnston County Public Schools. I would like to thank Dr. Jim Causby for his tireless efforts to assist Johnston County Public Schools.
As interim superintendent, Dr. Causby had been making a salary of $224,389.68. Vetrano’s salary as Chief of Human Capital is $117,288. School officials did not immediately respond to an email request if Vetrano’s salary will increase as the interim superintendent.
