Three people were injured when two vehicles collided Tuesday afternoon on North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield. The wreck was reported at 3:24PM at the intersection of Ava Gardner Avenue.
Smithfield Police said a green Ford SUV was headed southbound on Brightleaf Boulevard when it was struck in the side by a Hyundai passenger car pulling from Ava Gardner Avenue onto Brightleaf Blvd. The impact caused the SUV to overturn twice before coming to rest on its side in the roadway.
The 84 year-old driver of the SUV, Hilda Faye Phillips of Highway 39 North, Selma was trapped inside the overturned vehicle and had to be extricated by the Smithfield Fire Department who cut the roof off the vehicle.
Phillips was transported by Johnston County EMS to Wake Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Hyundai, Stacy Ann Beathe, 34, of Avon Drive, Durham and a 4 year-old passenger was taken by ambulance to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for treatment.
Beathe was cited by Officer K.P. Smith with a safe movement violation.
