Broken Pipe Blamed For 4,000 Gallon Sewage Spill

Johnston-County-Public-Utilities-Logo-FIJohnston County officials announced Friday an estimated 4,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled on Thursday from a pipeline in the 11400 block of Highway 210.  The spill was caused by a break in the pipeline.

The untreated wastewater was discharged into an unnamed tributary of Beaverdam Branch. 

County officials notified the NC Division of Water Resources about the spill. State officials are now reviewing the matter.

State law requires wastewater collection or treatment facilties to notify the public anytime a wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.
