A Johnston County man is charged with the stabbing of his brother-in-law.
Around 9:00pm Sunday, deputies responded to a stabbing on Britt Road, off US 701, in southern Johnston County. Officers found a 52 year-old Smithfield man covered in blood. He was rushed by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The suspect, identified as the victim’s brother-in-law, Freddie Van Pilkington, 59, of Britt Road, Four Oaks had already fled from the scene. He was located on Monday during a traffic stop on US70 East in Smithfield an arrested. Pilkington was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
A spokesperson for the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation but it appears an altercation over an ATV may have led to the assault. Pilkington was given a $75,000 bond on the charge.
