CLAYTON – Firefighters fought a number of brush and woods fires in Johnston County on Friday afternoon. The largest burned 8 to 10 acres just off of US 70 near Ranch Road and required a the use of a NC Forestry Service fire plow to control the blaze.
At one time, smoke was so dense in the area the the NCDOT posted messages warning drivers of the dangerous conditions.
The largest fire, between Twin Acres Road and US 70, remains under investigation.
