It took five fire departments to contain a large fire Monday afternoon in the Meadow community.
The fire broke out around 4:30pm at a former chicken house in the 5400 block of Meadowbrook Road, Benson. While the building no longer contained any animals, it did have more than 500 bales of hay inside, which proved to be stubborn to extinguish.
Five fire departments from Johnston and Sampson County responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office. No injuries were reported.
