Burglar Arrested After Returning To Scene, Police Say

SMITHFIELD – A burglary suspect was arrested after police said he returned to the scene of the crime.

Around 6:23am Saturday, June 7, a 33 year-old man called for assistance after a former roommate allegedly broke into his home and began rummaging through the residence. Police responded to the home, in the 3300 block of US 301 South, but the suspect had just left.

Approximately 30 minutes later the suspect returned. Officers responded and following a foot chase Jose Bejarano Pina of Raindrop Circle, Smithfield was arrested, police said.

The victim told officers Pina had moved out of the residence several weeks earlier and had no idea why he returned.

Pina was charged with felony breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, misdemeanor injury to property, and resisting and delaying an officer.

Pine was held under a $20,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.

No injuries were reported.
