Police are investigating if a burglar may have used an ATV to flee from the crime scene. Smithfield Police received a call Wednesday afternoon reporting a burglary at the home of a 58 year-old resident on Barbour Road.
The suspect forced open a door but was apparently startled by a burglar alarm and fled. Officers said they found ATV tracks nearby and haven’t ruled out the suspect may have escaped on an all terrain vehicle.
Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the 1400 block of Barbour Road between 9:00pm Tuesday and 3:45pm Wednesday is asked to contact Smithfield Police at 919-934-2121.
