RHP Corbin Burnes was promoted to Double-A Biloxi; RHP Trey Supak promoted to the Mudcats
Zebulon – The Milwaukee Brewers announced a series of roster transactions Monday with two affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The moves include the transfer of starting pitcher Corbin Burnes to Double-A Biloxi and the transfer of starting pitcher Trey Supak to the Mudcats from Class-A Wisconsin.
Burnes, 22, was 5-0 over 10 starts with the Mudcats and leaves the Carolina League as the league leader in earned run average (1.05), WHIP (0.88) and fewest baserunners/9ip ratio (8.25). Burnes was also second in the league in lowest average against (.181), third in innings pitched (60.0) and fourth in strikeouts (56) before the promotion.
Burnes was selected by the Brewers in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. He entered the 2017 season rated as the No. 20 prospect in the Brewers system by MLB.com and the No. 24 prospect in the Milwaukee system by Baseball America.
Supak, 20, comes to the Mudcats after going 2-2 with a 1.76 ERA over eight games and seven starts with Class-A Wisconsin. At the time of his promotion, Supak was eighth in the Midwest League in earned run average (1.76) and second in the league in both WHIP (0.76) and average against (.156).
Supak was acquired by the Brewers along with outfielder Keon Broxton in exchange for infielder Jason Rodgers in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates in December 2015.
The Mudcats roster is currently at 25 active players with four on the disabled list.
Supak will wear jersey No. 35.
The Carolina Mudcats are the proud new Carolina League, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First established in 1991, the two-time Southern League Champion Mudcats are in their 27th consecutive season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.
