Busy Clayton Intersection Will Be Converted To Four-Way Stop

For added safety, the Town of Clayton will convert the intersection of Fayetteville and Second Street near the Town Hall to a four-way stop.  A contractor is putting the finishing touches on a parking project at that corner which will bring 20 additional angled parking spaces to Town Hall/The Clayton Center. Ten new spaces have been added to Fayetteville Street and 10 new spaces on Second Street. This will be public parking that can be used by any visitors to downtown.

Signage has been in place warning drivers about this upcoming change but it will take some adjustment. Plans are to switch the intersection to a four-way stop on Tuesday, May 14th.

Previously, only drivers on Second Street had to stop, now drivers coming in all 4 directions will need to yield. Remember, if two cars reach an intersection at the same time, the car on the left must yield to the car on the right. In other words, the car on the right has the right-of-way.
