Buies Creek – Jeff Hahs drove in three and Matthew Barefoot notched a three-hit day to lead Campbell over Quinnipiac 11-6 Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium, claiming the weekend series.
Campbell improved to 4-3 with the win, taking the three-game set two games to one, while Quinnipiac fell to 4-3 on the season. The Bobcats claimed the series opener 7-5 Friday night before Campbell tookSaturday’s game two 10-7.
Hahs’ two-run home run in the third just inside the left field foul pole broke open a 3-3 game for the Camels. The junior’s sacrifice fly in a three-run first inning also gave Campbell its first score of the day.
Barefoot also knocked in a run in the first for the Camels with a base hit to center. The Dunn, N.C. native added a RBI double in the fifth and another single in the eighth, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
Campbell led by as many as six runs in the win, extending its advantage to 10-4 in the bottom of the sixth on Jimmy Monaghan’s RBI single.
Ryan Kirk (1-0) earned the win, working five innings with four runs, all earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Cole Hallum picked up the three inning save, his first of the season. Hallum allowed two runs on a hit with five strikeouts and five walks.
Andrew Witczak also tossed a scoreless inning in relief, surrendering one hit with a walk.
Blake DeCarr (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 3 1/3 innings of relief. QU starter Joseph Burns allowed three runs on two hits with a strikeout and two walks in 2/3 of an inning.
Drew Butler was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice. The senior has reached base safely at least twice in six of CU’s seven games this season.
Seven different Camels drove in runs on the day.
Julius Saporito led the Bobcats at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Matthew Batten also knocked in two, going 2-for-5 in the loss.
