Buies Creek – Campbell pounded out 12 runs on 10 hits to race past UNCW 12-5 Tuesday at Jim Perry Stadium.
Campbell improved to 19-22 on the season, while UNCW dipped to 18-21. With the win, the Camels claimed the series sweep over the Seahawks, also taking an April 4 meeting in Wilmington, N.C., 4-2.
The Camels trailed 4-1 before batting around in the fifth and sixth, piling up 11 runs with a five run frame, followed by a six run inning to go up 12-4.
With one out in the fifth, four straight hits, including three consecutive doubles, sparked the inning, with CU sending 10 to the plate.
Camels took 11 turns at the dish in the sixth for a six run frame, matching a single inning season high. Three hits, including a Jeff Hahs RBI single, plus three walks fueled the flurry. Ben Calvano and Zach Minnick were also hit by pitches with the bases loaded to drive home two more runs.
Allan Winans (3-4) earned the win for CU, going a season-best seven innings with four runs, three earned, on six hits with six strikeouts. The right-hander retired 15 of his final 16 batters in the win, and did not issue a walk on the night.
Erik Dowse tossed a perfect ninth, striking out one, while Jack Yusko bridged the gap, allowing a run on a hit with a strikeout and a walk.
Austin Warren (2-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. UNCW starter Clay Lockamon worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Hahs, along with Drew Butler, Matthew Barefoot and Cole Hallum all went 2-for-4, scoring twice for the Camels. Hahs also drove in two with a double in the fifth and a single in the sixth. Barefoot doubled twice, while Ben Calvano scored three times. Zach Minnick and Adam Wyse also knocked in two apiece.
Terence Connelly went 2-for-3 with a run, while Ryan Jeffers was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run for the Seahawks.
Next up will be a trip to No. 4 North Carolina on Wednesday, April 26 before the final exam break.
The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium on May 2, hosting Virginia Tech.
