Campbell Football Kicks Off Preseason Camp

Buies Creek  – Campbell kicked off its 2018 preseason camp Wednesday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

In their first day on the field, the 2018 Camels practiced in helmets through a non-contact early morning session, beginning around 8:00 a.m.

The team’s full preseason camp schedule includes 20 total practice sessions with four scrimmage dates, with the first coming on August 6 at Barker-Lane Stadium. CU’s second scrimmage will be held on August 11, with a third on August 16 and the fourth a week prior to the Camels’ 2018 opener on August 23.

The team will participate in two team building sessions away from campus, August 10 at Blaylock Farms and August 17 at Kersey Valley, also taking part in mental toughness training and hearing from several special speakers throughout camp.

The Camels will host their annual Fan Fest on August 25 at 7 p.m., closing out preseason camp.

All practices and scrimmage dates and times are subject to change. All practices will be held at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Camels enter their second decade following their second winning campaign, matching school records for overall (6) and conference victories (5) in 2017. Offensively, Campbell also set school records for passing touchdowns (21) and passing yards per game (207.8) a year ago, while hitting the 50 touchdown mark for the second time in the program’s 10 seasons. The Fighting Camel defense further established itself in 2017, ranking among the nation’s leaders (10th) in takeaways (27), aided by a school record 19 interceptions.

Campbell enters its first season as a member of the Big South Conference on the football field in 2018.

The Camels return 44 letterwinners, including 18 starters (eight offense, seven defense, three special teams), from their 2017 squad.
