The Highway Patrol has released the name of a Selma man who died in a single vehicle accident Wednesday night. The wreck was reported at 6:32pm on Pine Level-Micro Road.
Troopers said a 2002 Ford SUV was traveling southbound when the driver, James Edwards Jr., 58, ran off the roadway to the right and struck a ditch. The vehicle then reentered the highway and overturned ejecting Edwards.
Edwards was not properly restrained at the time of the collision, according to Trooper C.E. Summerlin with the State Highway Patrol Public Information Office. Edwards died as a result of his injuries.
The accident marks the second fatal collision this week. Monday night, Lopez Lofton, 52, of Four Oaks died when his Toyota pickup truck ran off the 8200 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road in the Bentonville community and slammed head-on into a tree. Officials said Lofton was also not wearing a seat belt. Photos by John Payne
