A car ran off a rural roadway and plunged more than 30 feet down an embankment at the edge of the Neuse River. The accident was discovered around 4:00am Saturday on Fire Department Road in Wilson’s Mills.
Her car ripped through a guardrail and traveled down the steep embankment. The victim said she was trapped in the car about 90 minutes before she could summon help. She complained of injuries but declined transport to the hospital.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol responded to the scene. What caused the vehicle to veer off the roadways remains under investigation. Photos by John Payne
