SMITHFIELD – A car struck the Plan B Bar, at 519 W. Market Street in Smithfield, Monday morning. The single vehicle accident happened around 11:00am.
Smithfield Police said the vehicle was traveling westbound on Market Street when the driver traveled off the roadway to the left, several hundred feet before the business. The car struck the side of the bar without slowing down.
The driver was entrapped inside the vehicle until being freed by the Smithfield Fire Department. Johnston County EMS transported the accident victim to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Police said one employee was inside the bar at the time of the crash. The employee was not in the vicinity of where the car entered the building and was not injured.
Johnston County Building Inspections responded and condemned the building as unsafe until repairs can be made. The owner plans to reopen as soon as possible.
