Carolina Thunder Wins National Tournament

The Carolina Thunder 8th grade (14U) basketball team from Selma recently traveled to Greensboro to play in the Always Live National Tournament.

Head Coach Cortney Moore and other members of the coaching staff prepared the young players throughout the season.

Carolina Thunder defeated the Apex Spurs in the championship game to bring home the championship trophy and rings to Johnston County.

“As a coach I’m proud of the guys for their hard work and dedication throughout the season,” Coach Moore said. “During the championship game, Jaylen Stancil was unstoppable. He added a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and was named the MVP of the game. I’m happy for the organization as a whole. This is the first National Championship for Carolina Thunder. We are looking forward to many more to come.”

Moore also thanked Coach Travis Holder and Carlos McCain for their support.
