The State Highway Patrol has filed charges against a Selma man they said caused a deadly crash around 2:30pm Sunday on Highway 222 less than a mile from the Kenly city limits.
Troopers said Percy Daughtry IV was operating a pickup truck that ran off Highway 222, overcorrected and then crossed the centerline colliding with a passenger car driven by Alejandra Lopez-Reyes. The 42 year-old Kenly woman was killed in the crash.
Two of her children, ages 2 and 15, were in her vehicle. They were taken by ambulance to Wake Medical Center for treatment. Daughtry was also taken to Wake Med for treatment. The children and Daughtry are now out of the hospital.
On Wednesday, Trooper T. Price said Daughtry has now been charged with death by motor vehicle and driving left of center. Troopers said they are still investigating the collision including why Daughtry crossed the centerline.
In the meanwhile, the family of Alejandra Lopez-Reyes is planning her funeral. Services are scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 7th at 12:00 Noon at St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the Price Cemetery near Selma. Visitation is scheduled Friday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the church. She is survived by two sons and a daughter.
