Charges Multiple For B&E Suspect After Arriving At Jail

CLAYTON – A 44 year-old Clayton man is facing numerous criminal charges. Larry Joe Avery of Big Pine Road was arrested June 13 by a detective with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Avery was wanted for a May 13, 2024 residential break-in in the 3000 block of Jack Road. Avery was identified as a suspect and a warrant was taken out for his arrest.

On June 13, a detective traveling on Big Pine Road spotted Avery walking beside the roadway and knew there was a warrant for his arrest.

While attempting to take Avery into custody, a scuffle ensured before he could be handcuffed.

Avery was taken before a magistrate and charged with breaking and entering, larceny, injury to property, resisting a public officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was ordered held under a $70,000 bond.

While being processed at the Johnston County Detention Center, jailers reportedly found a small amount of suspected cocaine and marijuana in his possession.

Avery was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance in jail/prison, felony possession of cocaine, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

A magistrate increased his bail from $70,000 to $110,000.

  1. Goodby Larry Avery, Your nothing more than a low life piece of trash! Great job to the Deputy that was on the ball and seeing this low life walking down the street. I’m surprised he was walking and did not steal a car.
