SMITHFIELD – A two-county chase ended near Smithfield Saturday morning. Just before 8:00am, a Wilson County man reported his truck had been stolen. Using a tracking app, he was able to locate the GMC truck traveling on US 301 from Wilson County into Johnston County.
The stolen truck soon re-entered Wilson County where a Wilson County deputy began chasing the vehicle down US 301 into Johnston County. The pursuit continued into Kenly and then onto Interstate 95 southbound at a high rate of speed.
At the 93 mile marker near the Brogden Road exit, the suspect crashed the stolen truck into the rear of a southbound passenger van. The suspect was immediately detained.
Johnston County EMS arrived and evaluated the suspect and the occupants in the van. No injuries were reported.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to jail and the stolen truck was turned over to its owner. The van was able to drive away.
