A child is hospitalized after being pulled from a retention pond.
It happened at 12:05PM Saturday. The Goldsboro Police Department, Goldsboro Fire Department and Wayne County EMS responded to the 1900 block of S. Slocumb St in reference to a possible drowning.
Callers advised that a young boy, approximately 7-9 years old, had gone underwater, had not come back up, and could not be found.
Officers from the Goldsboro Police Department arrived on the scene first and immediately entered the water to attempt to locate the child.
Members of the Goldsboro Fire Department arrived soon thereafter and also entered the water. A fireman located the child underwater, and the child was immediately taken to a waiting Wayne County EMS ambulance.
The child was transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The condition of the child was not released.
Goldsboro Police are currently investigating into the incident. No further information was released. Police say they will provide updates when available.
