Christmas Eve Fire Destroys Home Near Benson

BENSON — A fire destroyed a home in Johnston County on Christmas Eve.

The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon on Elevation Road outside of Benson. Multiple fire departments responded, including West Johnston, Benson, Elevation and 50-210.

Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, but the home was declared a total loss. Two people who were inside at the time escaped without injury.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Travis Johnson said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary information indicates the fire may have started near the front porch area.

No injuries were reported.
