After months of planning, a new partnership has formed between a Johnston County church and a Christian school to open a new elementary campus in Benson.
Crossroads Church of Benson (CCB) and Southside Christian School (SCS) of Clayton will open a new elementary school campus at the church just in time for the start of a new school term in August 2018.
Dr. Dan Patton, Southside Christian School Head of School, said SCS is a fully accredited Christian school and has been serving the families of Clayton since 2006. Over the last few months the school’s leadership and the leadership of Crossroads Church Benson have been in discussion about starting a campus to serve the families of Benson.
SCS is now taking applications and is planning to open Kindergarten though Grades 2 or possibly through Grade 3 classes in August 2018.
“The school and staff are excited about the partnership with Crossroads Church and about serving the families of Benson,” Dr. Patton told WTSB News. “Over the next few years SCS plans to offer classes through Grade 5 at the CCB facility in Benson and then as students move into the Middle School grades, to offer transportation to the new SCS campus that will soon be built in Clayton. SCS looks forward to partnering with Benson families for years to come.”
Crossroads Church Lead Pastor Scott Betts said the new school will fill a void in education in the Benson area. “If a parent’s desire is to raise their children in an environment where a fully accredited school offers academic standards that meet or exceed any others available in our community, where a vibrant spiritual life fueled by the truth of the Scriptures is the baseline, where integrity, morality and respect are the “common core” of values, safety and security are a priority, and the opportunity to excel athletically is always on the move, then Southside Christian School is the place for them,” Pastor Betts said. “SCS is a school positioned to fill a void in education in our area and does so with strong plan toward college preparedness and the development of the whole student, mind, body, and soul.”
“It is a joy to partner with Christian parents by providing a learning environment in which students are enriched spiritually, academically and socially,” said Jenene Davis, Southside Christian School Elementary Principal – Clayton Campus. “Preparing our students to impact the next generation for Christ is a privilege and responsibility we do not take lightly. As our culture continues to drift further from Biblical truth, parents find our partnership with them to be vital in the discipleship of their children.”
