Cigarettes Stolen During Business Break-Ins

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Smithfield Police are investigating store break-ins where cigarettes were stolen.

Around 2:30am Sunday, Smithfield Police discovered a break-in at the Marathon convenience store at 703 E. Market Street. Police said someone shattered the front glass door to gain entry. Once inside, the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of tobacco products.

Around 3:30am Sunday, Johnston County deputies discovered a burglary at Mac’s General Merchandise at 4432 Highway 242 South of Benson.  Someone broke out the front glass door. The suspect also stole an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.

Authorities have not said if the break-ins are possibly connected.  At last report, no arrests had been made.
