Clayton Inspector Earns State Leadership Role

CLAYTON, N.C. – Town of Clayton Building Codes Inspector III Jose Perez is helping shape the future of code enforcement across North Carolina after being named Eastern District Director for the North Carolina Mechanical Inspectors Association.

Perez was elected during the North Carolina Building Inspectors Association and North Carolina Mechanical Inspectors Association Annual Conference, held July 26-29 in Wilmington. In his new role, he will represent inspectors across eastern North Carolina on the association’s Board of Directors, helping guide discussions on mechanical codes, share best practices, and support consistent code enforcement.

“I see this as an opportunity to learn from some of the best inspectors across North Carolina and bring those ideas back to Clayton,” said Perez. “It is an honor to represent our Town while working with others who all share the same goal of making our communities safer.”

The North Carolina Mechanical Inspectors Association promotes consistent code enforcement and advances public safety through education, professional development, and collaboration. The organization brings together inspectors, design professionals, builders, manufacturers, and contractors from across the state to support safe and responsible construction practices.

Perez’s appointment shows the expertise within Clayton’s Inspections Department while giving the Town a voice in statewide discussions that influence code enforcement practices and strengthen public safety across North Carolina.

“Opportunities like this remind me to keep growing, keep listening, and give back to the profession that has given so much to me,” said Perez.

His election continues with a string of statewide recognition. One year ago, he was named the North Carolina Mechanical Inspectors Association’s Eastern District Inspector of the Year, an honor that recognizes excellence in the inspection profession.

“Jose has earned the respect of people across North Carolina because of the way he approaches his work,” said Inspections Director Barry Alston. “He leads by example, treats everyone with respect, and never stops exploring. We are proud to see him represent Clayton at the state level, and we know he will bring that same commitment back to the residents and businesses we serve every day.”

Perez has served the Town of Clayton for more than a decade and holds certifications in all five major inspection trades: building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire. His technical knowledge and commitment to public service have earned the respect of colleagues across North Carolina, making him a trusted voice both in Clayton and throughout the inspection profession.
