CLEVELAND – A Clayton man was shot and killed Thursday night and a 20 year-old woman hospitalized in serious condition with a gunshot wound. The shooting happened around 8:00pm Thursday at 1631 Josephine Road, Garner, in western Johnston County.
The two gunshot victims left the shooting scene on Josephine Road in a car and went to the Sheetz at the intersection of Highway 42 West and Cornwallis Road and summoned help.
One of the victim’s, Harley Alexander Shirley, age 21, of Clayton, died at the scene. The female victim was rushed to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Her name has not been released.
Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said investigators believe the shooting occurred at the address on Josephine Road. Afterwards, the suspects fled the scene in a yellow passenger car. Detectives are working to identify the suspects.
Captain Caldwell said investigators interviewed multiple individuals on Josephine Road who were present at the time of the shooting.
No additional details were released including a possible motive.
