CLAYTON – Clayton Police announced this afternoon the arrest of a suspect wanted on first degree murder charges. Dallas Lamar Phillips, 20, of Hogan Drive in Garner was charged today with the murder of Dustin Haywood Rogister.
On April 20th, police identified Phillips as the suspect in the stabbing death of Dustin Rogister of High Chaparral Drive, Clayton. Rogister was found dead inside his wrecked car earlier this month on Shotwell Road off Highway 70.
Police had responded to a car crash around 8:00pm on April 9th and found Rogister’s car had struck a power pole splitting the pole in half and bringing down live power lines. Duke Energy shut off power so emergency responders could safely approach the car. They discovered Rogister had died and his injuries were inconsistent with the accident.
Police have not disclosed details on a possible motive. Dustin Rogister was killed just a day before what would have been his 23rd birthday.
Dallas Phillips is now behind bars at the Johnston County jail being held on no bond.
