Clayton Police Carry Special Olympic Torch

Some folks were running down Highway 70 carrying a torch this morning (Thursday).

The Clayton Police Department carried the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” toward Raleigh as part of the NC Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Special Olympics Summer Games kick off Friday at the PNC Arena.

The officers were joined by two young Special Olympians, Kirby Roberson and Marshall Hawkins.

Roberson runs track at Clayton High School.  Neither of the boys flinched at the prospect of running 3 miles in the heat.

Clayton Police have participated in the Torch Run for two decades. Johnston County parole officers teamed up with police for the run through Clayton earlier today.
