Clayton Police Chief Is A Finalist For Job In Western NC

Clayton Police Chief Blair Myhand is one of two finalists being considered for the police chief job in Hendersonville, NC, just south of Asheville.   The Town of Hendersonville announced last week they had narrowed their search for a new police chief to two candidates, Blair Myhand and Gerald Childress, an officer with the Mooresville Police Department.

The Town of Hendersonville has been without a permanent police chief since Herbert Blake resigned five months ago to accept a job with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Hendersonville residents can submit questions for the two candidates who will participate in an online Zoom “Get To Know” event Tuesday, Jan. 5th from 10:30am – 11:45am.

Myhand has been the police chief in Clayton since April 2017. He was placed on administrative leave in November 2020.  Greg Tart is currently the Acting Chief of the Clayton Police Department.

No reason has ever been given as to why Chief Myhand was placed on leave two months ago from the Clayton Police Department.  Before being hired in Clayton, Myhand was a Captain with the Apex Police Department.
