Clayton Police Chief Greg Tart announced this afternoon (Wednesday) that investigators have identified a pedestrian struck by a car on Highway 42 West between Stonebrook Drive and Laurel Ridge Drive.
Around 8:30pm Sunday, police said Michael Lee Williams, 57, of Clayton was walking in the westbound lane of Highway 42 when he was struck by a 2013 Nissan driven by a Mississippi man. Williams was wearing dark clothing. The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.
Williams had no identification and officers were unable to immediately identify him. Williams was critically injured in the crash. He has since been upgraded to serious but stable condition and remains in intensive care at WakeMed, Chief Tart said today.
The driver of the car was not injured. No charges have been filed but the crash remains under investigation.
