Clayton High senior Blake Joyner recently signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Joyner, a two-sport athlete, excelled at both baseball and football in his time at Clayton High. Joyner was part of the All-Conference football team for three years, and the preseason All-State football team, as well as the All-Conference baseball team for three years.

Joyner also considered attending several universities to play either baseball or football including UNC Chapel Hill, Coastal Carolina University, Charleston Southern University, and Liberty University.

“The coaches (at Pembroke) are some of the best around and they’ve got a very good baseball program,” said Joyner. “They’re some of the coolest people you’ll ever meet.”

Joyner plans on majoring in Agriculture. He said he looks forward to improving his hitting and getting an all-around better understanding of the game of baseball while at UNCP.
