A cleaning solutions business, which has outgrown their location on Highway 70 East of Smithfield, will be moving to Benson. Johnston County Commissioners approved rezoning and special use permits for Hunt & Company, Inc., doing business as ChemStation. The company blends water-based cleaning solutions for containerless delivery to customers.
The company received approval to rezoning an existing building at 6275 Highway 50 in the Elevation Township from General Business to Industrial – Special Use District to operate. ChemStation will operate Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm and no weekends. The applicant said no noise is produced outside the facility. The company has one delivery truck and only two or three supplier trucks per weeks.
Carter Hunt, a company representative, said they are a third generation family owned business with four current locations.
The company has been in Johnston County since 2007 but recently outgrew their location in Smithfield prompting the need to relocate. Mr. Hunt said there has never been a spill at any of their facilities, are environmentally friendly, and haven’t had any hazardous material incidents. Hunt said they want to make sure their neighbors are happy and blend in with the neighborhood.
The Johnston County Planning Department recommended the permit be denied but the Planning Board voted 5-to-0 on February 16 to approve the permit. County Commissioners also voted unanimously April 5th to approve the application.
The Highway 50 building they will now occupy had previously been vacant for more than a year, Mr. Hunt told commissioners.
