Cleveland High Track Resurfacing

CLAYTON – The Johnston County School Board will spend $284,450 to repair the track surface at Cleveland High School. Chief of Facilities and Construction Brooks Moore said the track has degraded and is a safety issue. The school is no longer allowed to host track meets because of its poor condition.

The board agreed with a recommendation from Mr. Moore to award a bid to a Maryland company, Beynon, to repair the track. An additional contingency of $30,000 was also approved in case of any unforeseen issues with the repair.

  1. That’s $285,000 that could have been spent improving Clayton HS bleachers and facilities. This is not how money should be spent in Johnston County. The only school in the county that matters, that anyone cares about is THE Clayton High School.

  2. Whew, thank goodness the school system has its priorities. A quarter million on a track….to one of the newest high schools is the county. Kinda would like to know why it went bad so fast.

    • Amen! Wasting money on track resurfacing, while teachers spend (on average) $3200/year out of their own pockets, for class necessities. Way to go, JoCo board of Ed! #VoteOutIncumbents

        • Per NCDOR stats, in NC, tax filers who identify their employment as being in education, deducted an average of $3200 (median was $1800) on their 2021 NC tax return for an out-of-pocket-expense deduction. Feel free to calculate it yourself from the public data (https://www.ncdor.gov/news/reports-and-statistics) and keep LYAO. #FactsMatter

          • if you believe for one second that teachers were spending on average 350 a month during a nine year school year on supplies your nuts. thats 80 a week. keep dreaming clown.

          • @tell the truth the fact that teachers even have to spend their own money at all shows how broken the public school system is. I homeschool my 2 kids for a total of around $2000 for the entire year and that’s including curriculum, extracurriculars, private lessons and multiple field trips. The public schools are provided double that plus some to cover one student! I can also tell you they learn more, are more well rounded and I don’t have to deal with all the crap the schools are allowing to occur. The school system by nature waste money and time!

  3. @Clown: If you refuse to believe the actual data, that’s on you. I posted the average *and* median, in an effort to clarify the FACT. Too many people refuse to accept FACTual data it it contradicts their beliefs. If you’re one of the zealots who refuse to believe things when the FACTs are presented to you, I don’t know what to tell you. You’re welcome to your *opinion* as long as you understand the difference between *opinion* and FACT. #FactsMatter #FactsNotOpinions
