Co-Worker Charged In Kenly Shooting

A 45 year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly shot his co-worker in the face at close range during an altercation at the Motel 6 on Johnson Parkway in Kenly.

Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson said officers responded to the motel around 10:00pm Monday after the victim, Kary Kiker, 45, of Buchanan, Georgia was shot in the mouth while inside his room.

Chief Gibson said the suspect, Anthony Rawlings, 51, of Haflin, Georgia, and the victim both worked for the same Georgia-based company and were on the same crew for a number of years.

Gibson said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, however, Rawlings remained on the scene and has been cooperating with the Kenly Police investigation.

Rawlings was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The victim was rushed to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
