A Johnston County motorcycle collector was recently scammed. The victim saw a BMW motorcycle listed on Facebook Marketplace. After exchanging messages with the supposed owner, he agreed to purchase the motorcycle for $20,000.
The victim reportedly sent three bank transfers totaling $20,000 to the individual. He never received the motorcycle as promised and can no longer get a response from the person who placed the online ad. It turns out the ad as a scam.
According to Facebook, double check deals that seem too good to be true. Scammers may try to under price items to lure buyers. Never send deposits for high value items, and when possible try to confirm the existence and ownership before sending payment.
How does a sane, grown person fall for such obviously stupid malarkey? They should have told the buyer to meet in person and that would have solved the issue. People are do liberally ignorant nowadays!
