An intersection that has seen multiple accidents in recent years was the scene of a serious crash on Saturday.
Around 5:15pm, a Mercedes Benz passenger car and Ford work van collided at the intersection of Glen Laurel Road and Vinson Road near Clayton.
According to an eyewitness, the passenger car had stopped for a stop sign on Vinson Road then pulled directly into the path of the van which was traveling north on Glen Laurel Road. The van struck the car in the drivers side door.
The driver of the Mercedes was pinned in the wreckage. He was extricated by personnel from the Clayton and Wilson’s Mills Fire Departments before being transported by Johnston County EMS to WakeMed for treatment of serious injuries. A female passenger in the car and the male driver of the van sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The State Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
Neighbors said the intersection needs a traffic light, especially when school is in session at nearby Powhatan Elementary.
