SMITHFIELD – The intersection of Swift Creek Road and Cleveland Road closed Sunday afternoon after two cars collided at the intersection.
After the collision, one of the vehicles slid into a utility pole which snapped, knocking some of the traffic lights and closing the intersection. At least one person suffered minor injuries.
The Smithfield Fire Department provided traffic control for several hours until NCDOT workers established detours around the area. The intersection was closed until this morning (Monday) until the damaged pole and lights could be replaced.
