The Johnston County Board of Education has been authorized to spend $624,000 to purchase a 39 acre tract of land for a new school.
Johnston County Commissioners have approved a request from the Board of Education to buy the land on Lynch Road near the intersection of Highway 42 East for use as the site for a new middle school.
The property is being purchased from the Earp family at a price of $16,000 per acre. Officials said the price per acre is a good deal based on current land values in the area.
The 39 acres being purchased is part of a 202 acre tract in the name of Raymond E Earp Jr. Family Trust.
The purchase is contingent upon satisfactory completion of geo-technical and other site tests.
