Commissioners Approve School Land Purchase

Johnston County Schools plans to purchase 39 acres out of this 202 acre tract on Lynch Road near Highway 42 East for a new school. The cost is $16,000 per acre.

The Johnston County Board of Education has been authorized to spend $624,000 to purchase a 39 acre tract of land for a new school.

Johnston County Commissioners have approved a request from the Board of Education to buy the land on Lynch Road near the intersection of Highway 42 East for use as the site for a new middle school.

The property is being purchased from the Earp family at a price of $16,000 per acre.  Officials said the price per acre is a good deal based on current land values in the area.

The 39 acres being purchased is part of a 202 acre tract in the name of Raymond E Earp Jr. Family Trust.

The purchase is contingent upon satisfactory completion of geo-technical and other site tests.
