SMITHFIELD – To meet the continued demand brought on by growth, Johnston County commissioners approved three new full-time positions during their May meeting.
Johnston County Emergency Services received approval to hire an Assistant Fire Marshal and Fire Marshal Administrative Technician. The positions are needed due to an increase in new construction permits and the size of certain industrial projects already in progress that have significantly increased demand for fire code inspections and new construction plan reviews
Johnston County Inspections was authorized to hire an additional code enforcement officer. This will help the department handle an increase in commercial construction permits.
The three positions had not been previously funded in the current fiscal year budget ending June 30, 2024.
