New building currently closed to the public; but plans being made to reopen at limited capacity
Two Harnett County Government departments have moved to new homes following the completion of the Harnett County Resource Center & Library, and a third department is preparing to relocate in the near future.
The Harnett County Public Library, Harnett County Veterans Services, Harnett County Parks & Recreation, Harnett County Manager’s Office, and the county’s Human Resources, Finance, and Legal departments have completed their move to the new Resource Center & Library, located at 455 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, in the Harnett County Government Complex between the Harnett County Courthouse and the Health Department. The building also includes a 4,000-square-foot training facility and is the new meeting location of the Harnett County Board of Commissioners.
The move has left a number of vacant buildings, which will house several other county departments as the county moves forward in accomplishing the decades-old master plan of bringing all county departments to a single campus. Harnett County Information Technology – which was previously housed in two buildings at 201 West Front Street, Lillington, and 900 South 9th Street, Lillington – has moved to the former County Administration Building at 420 McKinney Parkway. Harnett County Solid Waste has also relocated from its former location at 900 South 9th Street, Lillington, to 200 Alexander Drive, Lillington. Following minor renovations, Harnett County Development Services will also move to 420 McKinney Parkway later this spring.
County officials are considering options related to the disposition of additional vacated properties including the former Harnett County Public Library and the former IT buildings.
The Harnett County Resource Center & Library is currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 and to allow for the completion of several outstanding construction items. County offices housed in the facility are continuing to provide services virtually. The Harnett County Public Library is offering curbside service.
County staff are finalizing plans to open the Harnett County Public Library and the rest of the building on a limited basis with COVID-19 precautions in place. The County is also planning a virtual ribbon cutting for the facility. More information will be provided when plans are finalized.
