CLAYTON – An employee with a construction crew was struck by a vehicle in a work zone on Highway 42 just east of Buffalo Road. The accident was reported around 9:30pm Monday after crews temporarily closed one lane of Highway 42 east for construction and workers were directing traffic through the area.
That’s when a vehicle traveling westbound struck a worker holding a stop sign. Luckily, the employee sustained on minor injuries and was treated at the scene by a Johnston County EMS crew. The man was not transported to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash stopped at the scene.
The accident caused delays on Highway 42 East and Buffalo Road for more than an hour.
The State Highway Patrol investigated the accident.The Thanksgiving Fire Department also responded.
