Construction On New Electric Substation To Start In 2021

Construction of a new electric substation has been given the green light by Johnston County Commissioners.

South River Electric submitted plans for a new substation on 3.8 acres out of a 27.9 acre tract of land at 95 Jada Allen Road, off Woods Crossroads Road at the Johnston-Sampson County line.  Once completed, the new substation will improve reliability to power customers in the area and also relieve demand on other nearby South River substations.

The substation will be constructed adjacent to a Duke Energy power line.  No one spoke in opposition of a rezoning and special use permit heard by commissioners.

Construction will likely begin in 2021. It will take about 6 months to complete the facility once construction begins.  Commissioners unanimously approved the request.
